In 2006 it was a magical rookie season for Pagenaud as the Frenchman claimed the series title following a remarkably consistent year racing for Team Australia. Pagenaud earned a win at Edmonton and a pole at Cleveland but was seemingly always at the front of the pack as he led the series with nine top-five results in 12 races. He fought off the brash Graham Rahal for the series crown that year, wrapping up the championship and top rookie honors at the season finale in Road America. He totaled 258 points on the year.
In 2002 and 2003 he competed in French Formula Renault and in 2002 and 2004 competed in Formula Renault Eurocup. He then moved up to the World Series by Renault in 2005 where he finished 15th. In 2006 he came to the United States and won the Champ Car Atlantic Championship with Team Australia in his rookie season by just a few points over Graham Rahal. With his Atlantic championship, Simon won $2 Million (USD) to apply towards a ride in Champ Car in 2007. On February 13, 2007.Pagenaud and Team Australia confirmed that Simon would be staying with the team, moving up to the Champ Car program. Pagenaud finished 8th in points in what was a very consistent debut season, with 3 consecutive 4th place finishes in the Canadian rounds of the championship. In 2008 he drove a half season with Conquest Racing and recorded four top five finishes. He will move to Walker Racing's Champ Car team for 2009.
