In February 2007, Robert split with his long time manager, Marco Andrea Zecchi, who signed test and race deals For Robert with teams in Formula One. Just prior to 2007 Robert raced for Red Bull Racing's F1 team. In 2007 Robert made the move to the Champ Car World Series, He signed with the Minardi Team where he was reunited with former F1 boss Paul Stoddart.
In the Netherlands, Robert has driven a Formula One car on public roads twice. In 2005, he was one of the drivers of the Monaco aan de Maas event in his hometown of Rotterdam. On August 15, 2006, he made the news with a fundraiser for the children of the 'Stichting Geluk en Vrijheid' (Foundation Happiness and Freedom). At a speed of 326km/h (204mph), he drove his Red Bull Formula One Car over the highway A7 on the Afsluitdijk in the Netherlands.
In February 2006, it was revealed Robert would be the test and reserve driver for Red Bull Racing Formula One team.
On January 23rd, 2007, Robert tested a Champ Car for the first time ever with Minardi Team USA at the Sebring International Raceway in Florida. He later stayed in Champ Car and will return in 2009 with Minardi's Champ Car effort.
In 2006, Robert was the third driver for the Red Bull Racing team in Formula One until the Chinese Grand Prix, when he was promoted to second driver alongside David Coulthard.
Robert is an accomplished kick boxer and still trains in the off-season. In addition to his strong racing career, Robert also studies when he can inbetween races and is hoping to complete his Business Degree course in 2009. |
