General: Founded in 1988, the Champ Car World Series serves as the sanctioning body for the Bridgestone Presents The Champ Car World Series Powered By Ford® Series, the premier open-wheel racing series in the United States, and Euorpe?, which serves as an essential stepping-stone for drivers striving to reach the pinicole of open wheel racing. The league is based in Indianapolis and has approximately 90 employees.
Founded: Champ Car World Series, LLC was originally founded by the late Wally Dallenbach and was known in the 80's and 90's as the CART Series. Over the years the series became known for its intense racing on a wide variety of tracks such as short oval tracks, super speedway ovals, street and road circuits and large road course tracks. The Champ Car open-wheel racing series is still the ultimate racing series of today, testing a drivers skill, patience and endurance at every race around the world.
Principles: Since its founding, the Champ Car World Series has preserved its founding principles:
- Establish and maintain a governing structure that represents all constituencies in the sport fairly and equitably.
- Control costs associated with racing with a concern for safety and competitive parity.
- Preserve and nurture the heritage of oval track & street racing.
- Provide opportunities for new sponsors, teams and drivers to enter the sport at its highest level.
- Bring Indy-style racing to new markets for both sponsors and fans.
Key Executives: Since 2007 the series is proud to have it's chief executive officer Steve Johnson onboard through 2013. Tony Cottman, serves as president of competition and racing operations.
Owners: Champ Car World Series, LLC is owned by the OWRSA (Open Wheel Racing Series Of America) and operated by the P.G.T Group

Champ Car World Series: Open-wheel, single-seat, open-cockpit cars featuring a 3.5-liter, 32-valve dual over-head cam, Turbo Charged Ford-Cosworth V-8 engine optimized to run at 15,000 RPM with an estimated 950 horsepower.

Championship: Champ Car Series drivers and teams compete for the Champ Car World Series championship, which includes a $1 million championship bonus. Championship points are earned by all participating drivers, with the driver with the highest number of points at the end of the season declared the champion.

OUR STORY
The Champ Car World Series
The Champ Car World Series has long been considered by motorsports fans and aficionados alike to be one of the truest tests of what makes an all around great racing driver. The series, with its diverse challenges that include oval tracks, road courses, and street circuits, is the only championship of its kind in the world. The series is also the fastest racing on earth, with the open-wheel turbocharged race cars delivering over 950 horsepower and speeds over 240 mph. This is not your Sunday drive-THIS is real racing.
The names of Champ Car drivers and participants reads like a roster of who's who in the auto and motorsport world. Those who have stepped up to the ultimate driving challenge include legends like Mario Andretti, Rick Mears, Emerson Fittipaldi, Nigel Mansell, Bobby Rahal, Danny Sullivan and up through more recent champions like Alex Zanardi, and current Formula One pilots Juan Montoya, and Jacques Villeneuve, just to name a few. Through the years, manufacturing powerhouses such as Ford, Mercedes Benz, Chevrolet, Toyota, and Honda have also been drawn to excitement and world-class competition and development. They have all been lured by the chance to grasp victory on circuits spanning nearly every corner of the globe in front of spectators totaling in the millions in just one season.
After years of ownership by Championship Auto Racing Teams, Inc. (CART) owners Kevin Kalkhoven & Gerald Forsythe, Champ Car World Series, LLC; is now owned and operated by the newly formed PGT Group. Which is a foundation formed by a few of the Champ Car race team owners. The PGT Group has brought the OWRSA which stands for Open Wheel Racing Series of America back to help Re establish the series. The PGT Group took over ownership of the Champ Car World Series, LLC in February 2008 when the IRL Indy Car Series tried to united open wheel racing. Champ Car will compete in 2009 and beyond under its current name (Champ Car World Series, LLC)
The seasons ahead promise to be no less exhilarating now that Champ Car is under the new ownership of the PGT Group & OWRSA! The Champ Car World Series again in 2009 will hit the glamorous track in Monterrey, Mexico to kick of the 2009 season on April 12th, 2009 and also will race at other famed tracks such as, the lakefront uniqueness of the airstrips in Cleveland, the party-filled streets of Canada, the warm spiciness of China, and the sunny, sexy beaches of Surfers Paradise, Australia. All of these events are added to the foundation of races that span the U.S., totaling into again the most diverse and exciting championship on wheels. The competitors begin in the Spring to qualify and race for those valuable championship points in hopes that, by the Fall, they will be holding the prestigious Vanderbilt Cup and $1million in winnings, putting their name in the open-wheel record books.
